The speculation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after host Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing suggests that the team might be building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
